FAQ’s

What type of loans do you provide?

Sprint Finance is a second chance lender and only lends money to buy a car or other motor vehicle.

The minimum loan is $3,000 and the maximum loan is $10,000 plus fees and any insurances,

What are the car requirements for a loan?

Vehicles being purchased need to be 2005 or newer and have 120,000 k’s or less on the odometer.

They need to be a standard vehicle, not modified or supercharged. The vehicle needs to be registered with a current WOF.

The vehicle will need to be comprehensively insured throughout the term of the loan.

What are your interest rates and fees?

The interest rate is from 18.95% to 26.95% per annum and is fixed for the term of the loan. The rate we charge depends on a couple of factors, including your credit rating.

We charge a $395 loan application fee and $7.50 per month administration fee.

Where GPS is required to be installed there is a $395 installation fee and $23-month rental fee. This is also included with your repayments.

Insurances and Broker Fees may also apply

What is the loan term?

Our minimum loan term is 12 months and maximum loan term is 48 months with payments to suit and aligned with your pay day.

How old do I need to be to apply?

You need to be 21 years or older to apply. If you are 18 – 20 years you could still be approved but would require a guarantor on the loan, such as a parent.

Do I need to be resident of New Zealand?

No, you can be on a Work Visa provided the term of the loan is within your visa dates.

Can I get a top-up part way through my loan?

You can apply for a top-after after 12 months of loan payments. Top-ups require us to rewrite the loan and are subject to application fees.

How do I make my payments?

We will debit your payments aligned with your wages. This can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Payments are to be made by Direct Debit, Wage Deduction or WINZ Redirection.

What are the licence and insurance requirements for a car loan?

You will need a minimum of a valid NZ Learner Licence. The vehicle will need to be comprehensively insured throughout the term of the loan

What is GPS?

Where you have bad credit we may require a GPS unit to be installed into the car being purchased. This allows us to find the vehicle if everything goes wrong.

Do you approve people on WINZ?

It’s possible for us to approve car finance if you are on WINZ, provided you can afford the payments

Do you require a deposit?

No, our car loans do not require a deposit.

Where can I buy a car from?

You can purchase your car from any Registered Motor Vehicle Dealership across New Zealand.

What if i have bad credit?

Even if you have bad credit, we can still help you buy a car or lend against a suitable pre-existing car.

There are still other factors we need to consider in your application though, like whether you can afford the repayments.

Why would I be declined?

We specialise in bad credit car loans, so you can still be approved if you have bad credit. A couple of glitches (even if unpaid) can still be approved.

However there are other factors of your application we also need to consider. The main reasons applications may get declined are:

  • Job stability – you need to be working, and show a consistent income
  • Affordability– you need to be earning enough to comfortably afford the repayments
  • Poor account conduct – bank statements showing payday loans and dishonours suggest hardship and no lender in New Zealand can lend money if the customer is showing difficulty managing their money.

Why do you need to see my bank statements?

Bank statements are a very important part of your car loan application. Here’s a few things lenders look for:

  • A stable income – a consistent income from the same employer means you’re more likely to be able to make any future car loan repayments
  • Affordability – you’ll need to be able to afford the car loan repayments by having enough disposable income after expenses
  • Payday loans – these can be a sign of unaffordability and risk for the lender – which would likely be declined
  • Gambling transactions – if gambling transactions are ongoing or frequent, this could hurt your chances of a car loan approval
  • Other loan repayments – how you’ve managed other loan repayments will give lenders an indication of how likely you’ll be able to make repayments on your new loan

Am I locked in to a car loan when I apply if I am approved?

No, when you are approved for your car loan, you will be sent a loan contract to sign before anything else happens.

The loan contracts are nice and easy – they can be signed and returned on any device (including your mobile). No printing or scanning. If you prefer to sign your car loan in person, you can pop in to our office where one of the team can talk you through everything.

What does conditionally approved mean?

If you’re conditionally approved for your Sprint car loan, you’re nearly ready to drive away. If you haven’t already provided all your documents, you may be required to do so. You can easily check for any outstanding tasks in your online portal. You would have received the individual link for this in a text and email. If you’ve already found the car you wish to buy with your car loan, just send us through the details and we will run a few quick checks for you.
